CEO's Message
Looking back and looking ahead
We are living in a challenging economic climate and a world that seems to be changing by the minute. At GES, we have a history of finding opportunity in challenge, and today is no exception.
I’ve seen many changes in the environmental industry since 1985, when I set about to create a new company, one that centered on client needs while fostering teamwork and encouraging innovation—in short, a place where people wanted to come to work in the morning. This philosophy has served us well, as GES has grown from one small office in Pennsylvania to one of the top environmental consulting firms in the U.S.
Our strength has always been in our local teams combined with a client-centric program management focus. I’ve always viewed the leader’s role as providing a strong and stable foundation, the right resources to help our people work effectively, and a solid backing for technical innovation. Our people have the regulatory and technical knowledge to meet our clients’ needs and solve their problems with the highest commitment to safety. That’s consistently been the GES approach, and it has served us and our clients very well.
From the start, our clients were among the world’s largest oil companies. We developed longstanding relationships that supported their environmental programs as their companies evolved, merged, and grew. We expanded with them, moving into new geographic areas and across petroleum sectors from gas stations to terminals, refineries, and pipelines. They weren’t our only clients though. We developed relationships with independent petroleum marketers in our local markets, helping them with the same skill sets and tools we had developed for our larger customers. By the mid-90s, many industrial leaders were also listed on the GES client roster, especially in the manufacturing, chemical, and utility sectors. And along the way, we’ve helped myriad companies in diverse market sectors to achieve their environmental program objectives.
Recently, we’ve diversified even more, expanding our government program and partnering with other consulting and engineering firms to add our unique brand of results-oriented services at projects ranging from Superfund sites to military installations. What’s more, we’ve developed a strong niche in the oil and gas exploration and production markets, where we’ve rapidly built respect for GES’ combination of technical know-how and efficient field services. We’ve also moved beyond U.S. borders, where we’ve found that companies are looking for the same attributes that our U.S. clients demand—quality and safety at a competitive price.
We are excited about the future and the opportunities to bring our clients new ideas and new solutions that deliver sustainable results.
