GES conducted a site investigation at a former dry cleaner facility to delineate the source area, evaluated receptors, and initiated a vapor intrusion (VI) investigation of the site and five surrounding residential properties. VI sampling required sub-slab sampling-point installation, sub-slab and near-slab sampling using SUMMA canisters with flow restrictors, and indoor air sampling using SUMMA canisters with 24-hour flow restrictors.

GES’ air quality team assisted with regulatory compliance issues, emissions inventory, and stack emissions testing at a manufacturing facility in New Jersey that uses a metalizing process that applies a thin film of a shiny metallic film between several layers of  protective coatings on the surface of non-metallic objects. The process uses a highly soluble silver nitrate solution in a spray booth application. Silver nitrate is listed on both the Right to Know Hazardous Substance List and Special Health Hazard  Substance List in New Jersey.

The Challenge

The client, a large independent petroleum-refining company, sought an environmental firm to provide tank inspection services for their extensive refining facility’s aboveground storage tank (AST) field. As these inspection services would require working at heights, which poses abundant risks to workers, the client proposed the use of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), or drones as an alternative safer and more efficient method for accomplishing the tank roof inspections.

Client Challenge

One of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America operates a liquid petroleum-chemical distribution services terminal in the New York Harbor. GES provides consulting, engineering, and field services support to address legacy impacts and emergency response needs within diverse operational components of the facility, areas of new construction, and sensitive wetland areas. GES completed a project to enable redevelopment of a portion of the facility for a new aboveground storage tank farm.

Client Challenge

A long-time client and major petroleum marketer is pursuing a real estate transaction that would result in the sale of more than 1,200 active retail service station properties across the United States. As a requirement of the sales agreement, the client needed to conduct a Phase I environmental site assessment (ESA) for each site within an 11-week period. The properties ranged in size and geography, including service stations along major toll roads and interstates, rural roads, and busy, urban locations.

Client Challenge

Situated in a major metropolitan area, this refinery operates 24/7/365 with more than 800 employees. The facility, which produces transportation fuels, petrochemical feedstocks, and fuel oils, has active shipping, trucking, pipeline, and rail operations on site. Environmental compliance and remediation needs are expansive and varied. GES supports the facility’s compliance program with a dedicated program team providing diverse environmental consulting and technical field services.

Client Challenge

A former 130-acre pharmaceutical campus, which had included headquarter offices, research and development, and manufacturing facilities, was closed following 80 years of operation. The multinational healthcare company is motivated to maximize property value and to satisfy the needs of local municipalities and investors to facilitate a smooth property transition to new uses. The environmental strategy, therefore, is to expedite cleanup and attain regulatory closure.
